This program is for post-high school applicants OR people who have pursued an alternate path to formal education (examples: military veterans, students at technical or trade schools, people who went directly into the workforce after high school, people who pursued a career outside of theatre after graduating from an undergraduate theatre program).
There are undergraduate-level and graduate-level Apprenticeships, please read each description carefully for full scope of requirements.
All applicants must be curious about pursuing a career in live theatre, must have some demonstrated interest in the area in which they are applying (inside or outside of a school setting), and must have strong availability for the duration of the Apprenticeship period. All applicants must be over 18, but there is no upper age limit.
For undergraduate-level Apprenticeships: Graduate students, people with professional and/or paid experience in live theatre, and people who no longer identify as early-career will not be considered.
For all Apprenticeships: Those who do not show adequate availability or applicants who do not address the Diversity Requirement will not be considered.
Our Apprenticeships are intended specifically for people who self-identify as a member of a group currently underrepresented in theatre production and artistic careers. Examples include but are not limited to: people of color, people with disabilities, immigrants, women pursuing careers in production or other traditionally male-dominated areas, first-generation college students, people from low-income backgrounds, and military veterans. We seek to provide diverse emerging professionals with hands-on experience in an effort to promote diversity in the arts. Note that all applicants must answer the Diversity Requirement question to receive consideration. While whether or not a prospective applicant fits that description is a question that can best be answered by the applicant.
Please see each Apprenticeship description for deadline information. Late submissions will not be considered.
Technical assistance will be available until 6:00pm (PT) the day before the application deadline, at [email protected].
Complete Applications include:
- An official Center Theatre Group ELECTRONIC Apprenticeship Application
- A Word or PDF resume (must be emailed to [email protected])
Important notes:
- Applicants are encouraged to submit materials early as an Apprentice may be selected before the deadline closes.
- You can apply for more than one, but you will need to submit separate applications for each apprenticeship.
- We will acknowledge receipt of all applications within a week of your submission. Do not submit multiple copies of the same application.
This is an educational program compensated with a stipend. Apprentices are not being hired by Center Theatre Group. Selected Apprentices will receive a stipend that varies on the type of Apprenticeship, plus parking or a Metro pass to offset transportation costs.
Schedule of payment: Apprentices will receive either half or full stipend within the first 30 days of their Apprenticeship, and the remaining half at the end.
